web design

Hi Guido, How do you create SSI. I usually buy frontpage templates that have an includes page, but lately FP has not been too reliable. So I'm thinking of using Dreamweaver or another html editor but html templates don't have SSI. Thanks, Jeremy

Jeremy, you can use SSI in two ways:

1) either you name your webpages with the extension .shtml and then use the following include command inside your html code:

<!--#include virtual="path-to-file/example.html" -->

2) Or, to enable server side parsing of .htm and .html pages you would create a .htaccess file and add the following Apache Handler to it (works only on Linux Apache servers - not on Windows hosting)

AddHandler server-parsed .htm .html

A more detailed SSI tutorial, explanations and step-by-step instructions for creating .htaccess files you can find inside the RSS newsfeed syndication video tutorial which you can download for free.

Yours, Guido
